furnace cleaning edmontonIt’s a question we get all the time: “When is it time to change my furnace filter?”. Dirty Furnace filters drastically affect your indoor air quality and your furnace efficiency. We have heard it said that the air inside our homes is much more polluted than the air outdoors simply because of the amount of pollutants trapped inside. As furnace cleaning experts we know the effect that dirty filters can have on your air quality as well as the way your furnace operates; many homeowners however do not.

So to answer this frequently asked question, most furnace filters should be changed every 3 months on average, but there are exceptions to this rule. If any of these apply to you, you should be changing or at least vacuuming your filter (depending on the type) every month.

  1. If someone is smoking in your house.
  2. If you have pets.
  3. If someone in your house has a respiratory problem (e.g. asthma)

In addition to the above qualifiers, you should change your filter or clean it if:

  • you see dust around your air vents;
  • your house is dustier than normal;
  • you feel congested;
  • you smell a dusty, burnt odour coming from your furnace when it starts.
