Mix 1 tablespoon of household ammonia to 1/2 cup of water.
Mix 1/4 teaspoon of a hand dishwashing detergent which does not contain bleach with 2 cups of water.
General Rules for Removing Carpet Stains
- White Paper Towel Product
- Take 1/4 Teaspoon Hand Dishwashing Soap (Without Lanolin), or Bleach and mix with 1 Quart of water
- Spray bottle for mixtures
- 1 Tablespoon household ammonia mixed with 1/2 cup water to make ammonia solution
- Rubbing Alcohol with Isopropyl
- 3% Hydrogen Peroxide
- A vinegar solution using 1/3 cup vinegar, (use only white), and 2/3 cup water
- Dull Knife
- Heavy object(s)… Eg. Books
Blot up as much as possible of the spill. Using a Wet Vacuum is easier for large spills.
In the case of dried spills, moisten the fibres in the area with tap water (Do not over saturate). Leave for 1 minute then blot up.
If you are using water to clean the spot, then repeat above until spot is removed. Blot dry, then put paper towel and heavy object over area.
Remove as much of the spot as possible by blotting with dull knife or paper towel. Apply minimal amount of detergent mixture to the area. Use a sponging motion to work the mixture into the fibres. If the spot is disappearing continue with this procedure until stain is fully removed. Rinse using a spray bottle with tap water, sponge to remove excess moisture. Spray lightly without sponging. Apply paper towels and heavy object to area and allow to dry.
